We have important news to share with you. There is no easy way to say this, so we’re just going to rip the bandaid off. There can be no public consumption of alcohol at this year’s Critical Northwest event.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) determined that Critical is a public event and must comply with public consumption laws. What this means for us is that Ignition Northwest and theme camps will not be allowed to serve alcohol, and no open consumption is permitted.

We know this is a bit of a bummer and puts a damper on some of your event plans. We feel the same way, and the Production team fought hard to find another solution.
However, we sincerely ask everyone to follow these guidelines. Not doing so could harm our relationship with the WSLCB. While we are out of options for this year, it is important that we continue working with them to navigate Washington law and continue with a solution that matches up with this community’s culture and values.

INW, Production staff, and the NW Rangers will be available throughout the event to assist anyone’s understanding of the rules. Remember these are the same as any other public festival in Washington. Other events comply with Washington Law by selling alcohol in a designated beer garden area, this would be contrary to the spirit of our event, as well as the requirements established by the Burning Man Organization for designation as a Regional event.

Our primary goal is to still bring you an entertaining and magical event. We do not expect these policies to significantly alter the unique character of Critical NW, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, positivity, and adaptability.
